New Year Resolutions

Perhaps you’ve made them, perhaps you haven’t, but I’m sure you know you want something in your life to be different this time next year.

Work life balance, having more fun, relationships, healthy living, or career - there is always something we know we should change or something we know could work better.

New Year resolutions often focus our minds on making a change. Deciding what we want to achieve is the first step to making changes in our lives, but how are we going to make sure we’re part of the small percentage of people who see their resolution through to the end of the year, or even the end of the week?

Here are a few tips.

  1. Be SMART – make your goal specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time-bound. Instead of “I will learn to swim”, try “I will learn to swim a length of my town’s pool by the end of June”.

  2. Break it down into small steps – it can be a bit daunting, focusing on the end goal – so think about your first step. “I will phone the leisure centre about swimming lessons tomorrow.” That’s manageable!

  3. Remind yourself why you’ve chosen this goal – “if I can swim, it’ll be great exercise AND it’ll be fun to jump in the pool on holiday”.

  4. Share your goal with someone – you’re much more likely to follow through if you feel that you’re accountable to someone – and they can encourage and support you.

Life Coaching could help you identify what’s important to you, work out some manageable goals and make a plan.

If that sounds like something you’d like to explore, then make your first resolution to call me or e mail me to arrange a no-cost, no-obligation introductory chat and we can talk about what Life Coaching is and see whether you think it might help you towards a brilliant 2024.

Happy New Year!
